Es bas\u00e1ndose en esta ra\u00edz que la definici\u00f3n de la palabra involucra la afirmaci\u00f3n de la personalidad, confianza en uno mismo, autoestima y comunicaci\u00f3n eficaz y segura (Rodr\u00edguez y Serralde, 1991, citado en Gaeta Gonz\u00e1les y Galvanovskis Kasparane, 2009).<\/p>\n<p>Wolpe explica que una aserci\u00f3n \u201c<em>es toda expresi\u00f3n socialmente aceptable de derechos y sentimientos personales, lo cual incluye rechazos, reclamos, expresiones de premio y afecto, y exclamaciones de sentimientos personales tales como satisfacci\u00f3n, disfrute y rabia<\/em>\u201d (1983, p. 133, citado en Vel\u00e1squez y cols. 2008). Lange (1980\/1983, p.310, citado en Vel\u00e1squez y cols. 2008) agrega adem\u00e1s que es: \u201c<em>la comunicaci\u00f3n de las opiniones, creencias, sentimientos y deseos personales de una forma directa, honrada y adecuada<\/em>\u201d. Es decir que se trata de un punto intermedio entre las actitudes agresiva y pasiva frente a otros, que envuelve tanto a la conducta verbal (vocabulario, fluidez, tono) y la no verbal (postura, expresi\u00f3n facial).<\/p>\n<p>Las habilidades sociales necesarias para ser asertivo se pueden adquirir por aprendizaje (imitaci\u00f3n, informaci\u00f3n, observaci\u00f3n) y aumentan los refuerzos sociales recibidos por la persona. A su vez tambi\u00e9n permite que el individuo pueda establecer l\u00edmites de forma honesta, directa y oportuna, manteniendo el respeto propio y durante una interacci\u00f3n social ya sea con un extra\u00f1o, con un ser querido o con una persona con la cual se mantiene una relaci\u00f3n educativo-laboral.
