Fue el primer latinoamericano y el cient\u00edfico m\u00e1s joven en ganar la C\u00e1tedra Humboldt.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Cuando ten\u00eda ocho a\u00f1os, el peruano Harald Helfgott se planteaba preguntas matem\u00e1ticas que el resto de sus compa\u00f1eros tal vez se har\u00edan reci\u00e9n en la secundaria.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 0.99999 hasta el infinito pod\u00eda ser igual a 1? \u00bfC\u00f3mo hallar la ra\u00edz cuadrada de -1? \u00bfC\u00f3mo hallar la ra\u00edz cuadrada de un n\u00famero imaginario?<\/p>\n<p>Harald encontraba las respuestas y se sent\u00eda maravillado: \u00ab<em>Era un gran placer responder a mis propias preguntas en el colegio<\/em>\u00ab.<\/p>\n<p>El matem\u00e1tico Helfgott, nacido en Lima en 1977, asisti\u00f3 a una escuela de la capital peruana y con los a\u00f1os potenci\u00f3 su curiosidad matem\u00e1tica hasta tener como resultado una brillante carrera.<\/p>\n<p>Estudi\u00f3 becado en la Universidad de Brandeis, Estados Unidos, llev\u00f3 un doctorado en Princeton y un post doctorado en Yale, y se convirti\u00f3 en investigador en el Centro Nacional de la Investigaci\u00f3n Cient\u00edfica de Francia.<\/p>\n<p>Este a\u00f1o, Helfgott fue el primer latinoamericano y el cient\u00edfico m\u00e1s joven en ganar la C\u00e1tedra Humboldt, que dota a sus beneficiarios con US$3,9 millones por responder a una pregunta que romp\u00eda la cabeza de los cient\u00edficos hace casi 300 a\u00f1os: <em>\u00ab\u00bfEs cierto que todo n\u00famero impar mayor que cinco puede expresarse como la suma de tres n\u00fameros primos?<\/em>\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>La pregunta nac\u00eda de la llamada Conjetura d\u00e9bil de Goldbach.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_20260\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/seryhumano.com\/web\/?attachment_id=20260\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-20260\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20260\" class=\"wp-image-20260\" src=\"https:\/\/seryhumano.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/HH.jpg\" alt=\"Harald Helfgott:&quot;Era un gran placer responder a mis propias preguntas en el colegio&quot;.\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seryhumano.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/HH.jpg 624w, https:\/\/seryhumano.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/HH-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/seryhumano.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/HH-265x150.jpg 265w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-20260\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Harald Helfgott:\u00bbEra un gran placer responder a mis propias preguntas en el colegio\u00bb.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>En 1742, el matem\u00e1tico prusiano Christian Goldbach envi\u00f3 una carta a su colega suizo Leonhard Euler en la que propon\u00eda que todo n\u00famero par mayor que dos puede escribirse como la suma de dos n\u00fameros primos y que todo impar mayor que cinco puede escribirse como la suma de tres primos.<\/p>\n<p>Ninguno de los dos estudiosos pudo comprobar las afirmaciones, por lo que quedaron como conjeturas. La segunda fue conocida como \u00ab<em>d\u00e9bil<\/em>\u00bb porque estaba incluida en la primera, que comenz\u00f3 a llamarse \u00ab<em>fuerte<\/em>\u00ab.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab<em>El trabajo serio para comprobar la conjetura d\u00e9bil comenz\u00f3 a principios del siglo XX. En la noche, volv\u00eda a concentrarse en el trabajo de la conjetura hasta la hora de dormir.<\/p>\n<p>En junio de 2013, por fin hall\u00f3 la respuesta y demostr\u00f3 en un trabajo de 79 p\u00e1ginas que la conjetura d\u00e9bil de Goldbach era cierta.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00bfPARA QU\u00c9 SIRVE DEMOSTRAR LA CONJETURA?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La demostraci\u00f3n de la conjetura en s\u00ed misma tal vez no sirva para nada.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab<em>M\u00e1s bien las ideas o herramientas aplicadas para hallar la demostraci\u00f3n son las que ser\u00e1n \u00fatiles para la teor\u00eda de n\u00fameros o en algunos casos fuera de ella<\/em>\u00ab, explica Harald.<\/p>\n<p>Gracias a su trabajo, el matem\u00e1tico peruano ha sido invitado a dar charlas en Australia y varios pa\u00edses de Am\u00e9rica, Europa y Asia.
