Durante d\u00e9cadas, China ha ansiado un Premio Nobel en una de las categor\u00edas cient\u00edficas. Una investigadora poco conocida que ayud\u00f3 a aislar un medicamento contra la malaria inspirada por un remedio antiguo brind\u00f3 por fin ese honor a China.<\/p>\n

Tu Youyou, de 84 a\u00f1os, se convirti\u00f3 adem\u00e1s en la primera mujer del pa\u00eds en ganar un Nobel.<\/p>\n

Tu nunca obtuvo mucho reconocimiento en China por su participaci\u00f3n en el descubrimiento de principios de la d\u00e9cada de 1970, y nunca fue aceptada en la prestigiosa academia nacional de ciencias a pesar de varios intentos. Pero tras conocerse que recibir\u00e1 el Nobel recibi\u00f3 m\u00faltiples felicitaciones y su nombre se convirti\u00f3 en tendencia en medios sociales al tiempo que gener\u00f3 halagos para la investigaci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica del pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n

El primer ministro chino, Li Keqiang, felicit\u00f3 a Tu por hacerse con el galard\u00f3n, como hizo tambi\u00e9n el viceprimer ministro Liu Yandong, responsable adem\u00e1s de Educaci\u00f3n, Ciencia e Investigaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

Tu apareci\u00f3 en la televisora estatal CCTV para decir que el Nobel es un \u00abgran honor<\/em>\u00bb pero rechaz\u00f3 recibir todos el m\u00e9rito por su trabajo en el descubrimiento de la artemisinina y dehidroartemisinina, aislados de la plata del ajenjo dulce.<\/p>\n

Tu y su equipo investigaron m\u00e1s de 200 hierbas medicinales antes de centrarse en el ajenjo dulce \u2014 un remedio citado originalmente en un texto chino del siglo IV del boticario Ge Hong.
