En \u00e9l, Santana combin\u00f3 elementos latinos con el blues rock. La banda de fusi\u00f3n rock latino gan\u00f3 grandes audiencias desde 1969, cuando Santana toc\u00f3 en el hist\u00f3rico festival de Woodstock ante una multitud que se electrific\u00f3 especialmente por el solo de bater\u00eda de Michael Shrieve en \u00abSoul Sacrifice\u00bb. Shrieve toca en Santana IV junto al tecladista Gregg Rolie y el percusionista Michael Carabello.<\/p>\n<p>El bajista de la alineaci\u00f3n cl\u00e1sica, David Brown, falleci\u00f3 en el a\u00f1o 2000. El bajo en el nuevo disco est\u00e1 a cargo del holand\u00e9s Benny Rietveld.<\/p>\n<p>El nuevo \u00e1lbum tampoco incluye a Jos\u00e9 Octavio \u00abChepito\u00bb \u00c1reas, el percusionista nicarag\u00fcense que toc\u00f3 el timbal con la banda en Woodstock y fue homenajeado junto al resto de la banda original de Santana en el Sal\u00f3n de la Fama del Rock and Roll en 1998.<\/p>\n<p>En 1999, Santana volvi\u00f3 a ser el n\u00famero uno en ventas, tras un bache de casi tres d\u00e9cadas, con el \u00e1lbum Supernatural que dio un sabor m\u00e1s pop contempor\u00e1neo a los \u00e9xitos \u00abSmooth\u00bb y \u00abMaria Maria\u00bb.
