Pero ning\u00fan descubrimiento perturbar\u00eda tanto nuestra percepci\u00f3n del mundo, y de nuestra posici\u00f3n en \u00e9l, como el hallazgo de vida inteligente ah\u00ed fuera. No solo devastar\u00eda el fundamento de toda religi\u00f3n \u2013la idea de que somos \u00fanicos en la creaci\u00f3n\u2014 y desmantelar\u00eda cualquier idea filos\u00f3fica basada en la peculiaridad de la naturaleza humana, no solo nos dejar\u00eda estupefactos y maravillados, sino que permitir\u00eda someter a prueba el enigma central de la biolog\u00eda: hasta qu\u00e9 punto somos producto del azar, y hasta cu\u00e1l de las leyes de la naturaleza.<\/p>\n<p>No hemos encontrado vida inteligente, ni vida alguna, en ninguna parte del cosmos a la que hayamos mirado, pero lee en Materia cu\u00e1l es el candidato n\u00famero uno para buscarla. Est\u00e1 ah\u00ed, a solo unos pocos a\u00f1os luz, orbitando sobre la estrella m\u00e1s cercana al sistema solar, Pr\u00f3xima Centauri. No es el \u00fanico exoplaneta que est\u00e1 en la zona habitable de su estrella (los astr\u00f3nomos han descubierto ya otra docena, y sin duda hallar\u00e1 muchos m\u00e1s), pero s\u00ed el m\u00e1s cercano a nosotros, el que tenemos m\u00e1s a mano. Incluso antes del descubrimiento, de hecho, ya hab\u00eda un proyecto del fundador de Facebook, Marck Zuckerberg, y el magnate ruso Yuri Milner, apoyado nada menos que por el f\u00edsico te\u00f3rico Stephen Hawking, para alcanzar Pr\u00f3xima Centauri en 20 o 40 a\u00f1os.
