El Samhain marca, tambi\u00e9n, el inicio del nuevo a\u00f1o celta que comienza con el solsticio de oto\u00f1o.<\/p>\n<p>La tradici\u00f3n de tallar verduras, nabos preferentemente, utilizados como linternas responde a la creencia de que estas esculturas proteg\u00edan a los humanos de los esp\u00edritus de los difuntos que esa noche erraban entre los vivos.<\/p>\n<p>El uso de la calabaza fue a\u00f1adida posteriormente a la simbolog\u00eda que rodea la fiesta de Halloween. Cuando los irlandeses inmigraron a Estados Unidos importando esta tradici\u00f3n se dieron cuenta de que era mucho m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil tallar una calabaza que un nabo.<\/p>\n<p>En Espa\u00f1a existen otras celebraciones t\u00edpicas para la noche del 31 de octubre: Magosto, en el noroeste de la Pen\u00ednsula Ib\u00e9rica y la Castanyada, en Catalu\u00f1a, con las que se da la bienvenida al oto\u00f1o. En estas festividades tiene su origen en la recogida de las casta\u00f1as.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Disfraces<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>En ciertas partes de Escocia e Irlanda, durante el Samhain, los celtas usaban m\u00e1scaras e intercambiaban sus vestimentas para confundir a los esp\u00edritus de los muertos. En aquella cultura donde la separaci\u00f3n entre la muerte y la vida era m\u00e1s difusa, las gentes pensaban que as\u00ed impedir\u00edan a las \u00e1nimas invadir sus vidas.<\/p>\n<p>Esta tradici\u00f3n de ocultar la identidad ha sobrevivido atravesando, a su vez, m\u00faltiples interpretaciones que han llegado hasta hoy.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/seryhumano.com\/web\/cual-es-el-origen-de-halloween\/halloween-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-23815\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23815\" src=\"https:\/\/seryhumano.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Halloween-e1477929262777.jpg\" alt=\"halloween\" width=\"500\" height=\"328\" \/><\/a>\u00bfPagana o cristiana?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Las ofrendas culinarias eran t\u00edpicas durante la festividad de Samhain como s\u00edmbolo de apaciguamiento y recuerdo.<\/p>\n<p>Durante la fiesta del A\u00f1o Nuevo C\u00e9lta se convidada a los esp\u00edritus a participar en el fest\u00edn.<\/p>\n<p>Cuando el Cristianismo se extendi\u00f3 en Europa, la Iglesia Cat\u00f3lica intent\u00f3 erradicar los rituales paganos. Roma tuvo que mostrarse indulgente para atraer a los fieles a las iglesias. El papa Gregorio IV, en el a\u00f1o 837, propici\u00f3 el que la festividad del D\u00eda de todos los Santos, del 13 de mayo, coincidiera con la festividad de Samhain, en octubre.<\/p>\n<p>La costumbre de Halloween de pedir dulces puerta a puerta fue adoptada por la Iglesia con el fin de integrar las creencias paganas, Roma tambi\u00e9n permiti\u00f3 que las gentes se disfrazaran de \u00e1ngeles, santos o demonios.
