Se educ\u00f3 en la Academia Militar de Ludwigsburg y obtuvo el t\u00edtulo de Ingeniero Civil en la <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Universidad_de_Tubinga\">Universidad de Tubinga<\/a>, antes de ingresar, a los veinte a\u00f1os, en el Ej\u00e9rcito prusiano.<\/p>\n<p>Su carrera militar le llev\u00f3 en 1863 a la <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Guerra_de_Secesi%C3%B3n\">Guerra de Secesi\u00f3n Norteamericana<\/a> en calidad de agregado de <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Prusia\">Prusia<\/a>, a la guerra Austroprusiana de 1866 y a la Francoprusiana en 1870-71. A su retiro, en 1891, hab\u00eda alcanzado el grado de General de Caballer\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p>Desde su primer vuelo en globo, en agosto de 1863, se convenci\u00f3 de la utilidad b\u00e9lica y civil de estos aparatos, por lo que desarroll\u00f3 un plan de transporte civil que public\u00f3 en 1887. Su idea se basaba en grandes globos aerost\u00e1ticos y fue publicada en 1887.<\/p>\n<p>Dedicando su vida y su fortuna a este empe\u00f1o, empez\u00f3 en 1898 a dise\u00f1ar un \u00ab<em>tren a\u00e9reo<\/em>\u00bb cuyo concepto evolucion\u00f3 hasta las aeronaves dirigidas, que m\u00e1s tarde recibieron en su honor el nombre de Zepelines o Dirigibles. Logr\u00f3 un primer vuelo el 2 de julio de 1900, pero no fue hasta 1906, a los 68 a\u00f1os, cuando consigui\u00f3 terminar con \u00e9xito su primer aparato, el LZ-1, capaz de alcanzar una velocidad de 48 Km\/h.<\/p>\n<p>Tres a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s mont\u00f3 una f\u00e1brica en Friedrichshafen, llamada Zeppelin Foundation, y el 22 de Junio de 1910, el \u00ab<em>Deutschland<\/em>\u00bb se convirti\u00f3 en el primer dirigible comercial del mundo, transportando poblaci\u00f3n civil y correo por gran parte de Alemania.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/seryhumano.com\/web\/sabes-quien-fue-zeppelin\/ferdinand-von-zeppelin\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-28410\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28410\" src=\"https:\/\/seryhumano.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Ferdinand-von-Zeppelin-e1531045583460.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"186\" \/><\/a>Se construyeron varios dirigibles m\u00e1s. El m\u00e1s conocido es el Dirigible Hindenburg, que era m\u00e1s largo que tres aviones Boeing 747 juntos. Este dirigible se destruy\u00f3 cuando iba a aterrizar en Nueva Jersey el 6 de mayo de 1937.
