En este sentido, han apuntado que en el oc\u00e9ano la abundancia o escasez de hierro determina el crecimiento del plancton, la base de la cadena alimenticia en el mar.<\/p>\n<p>Por ello, los autores del trabajo, que ha sido publicado en &#8216;Nature Geoscience&#8217;, han indicado que este aporte de hierro de los glaciares \u00abpueden ayudar a estimular el crecimiento del plancton durante la primavera y el verano\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Hasta ahora, se cre\u00eda que el hierro que llegaba al mar proced\u00eda del hielo en polvo arrastrado por el viento o los sedimentos de glaciares, pero se consideraba que en el deshielo de glaciares las capas de hielo estaban demasiado diluidas para llevar hierro. \u00abHasta ahora el derretimiento no hab\u00eda sido considerado como una importante fuente de nutrientes que son utilizables en los ecosistemas aguas abajo\u00bb, ha explicado la autora principal de la investigaci\u00f3n, Maya Bhatia.<a href=\"https:\/\/seryhumano.com\/web\/?attachment_id=3099\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3099\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3099\" alt=\"deshielo 1\" src=\"https:\/\/seryhumano.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/deshielo-1.jpg\" width=\"290\" height=\"174\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Los datos se han obtenido durante el transcurso de dos expediciones a la capa de hielo de Groenlandia, en mayo y julio de 2008. Bhatia y sus colegas recolectaron muestras de varios glaciares que terminan en tierra en el lado occidental de la isla helada. El estudio determin\u00f3 que los niveles de hierro disueltos son de magnitud mayor de lo que se cre\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abMucha gente piensa en un glaciar es un gran bloque de hielo, pero en realidad es un sistema bastante poroso y complicado, con una gran cantidad de molinos y grietas que conducen a la parte inferior\u00bb, ha indicado Bhatia, que ha a\u00f1adido que \u00abuna vez que te metes en la parte inferior del glaciar hay grandes t\u00faneles por los que pasa agua\u00bb. \u00abCuanto m\u00e1s tiempo pasa el agua en contacto con el lecho de roca y sedimentos debajo del glaciar, m\u00e1s nutrientes que recoge, entre ellos el hierro\u00bb, ha apuntado.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/seryhumano.com\/web\/?attachment_id=3100\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3100\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3100\" alt=\"deshielo 2\" src=\"https:\/\/seryhumano.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/deshielo-2.jpg\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" \/><\/a>El equipo de WHOI dice se necesita m\u00e1s investigaci\u00f3n para determinar la cantidad de hierro que llega al mar abierto, ya que su estudio sigui\u00f3 el agua de deshielo desde el borde de los glaciares al gran lago en el que desembocan.
