Crecen engullendo los\nastros que se les acercan y que, una vez cruzado el llamado horizonte de\nsucesos, no pueden regresar al universo exterior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Un agujero negro supermasivo, lo m\u00e1s parecido al Ojo de\nMordor que hay en una galaxia, ha sido fotografiado por una comunidad de\nastr\u00f3nomos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La imagen, hecha p\u00fablica hoy por el consorcio Event Horizon\nTelescope (EHT), confirma la existencia de estos desconcertantes astros\npredichos por la teor\u00eda de la relatividad de Albert Einstein y ayudar\u00e1 a\naclarar c\u00f3mo funcionan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los cient\u00edficos lo han descrito como \u00ab<em>un absoluto monstruo<\/em>\u00ab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>Este es un momento\nhist\u00f3rico. Transformar\u00e1 nuestra comprensi\u00f3n de los agujeros negros<\/em>\u201d, ha\ndeclarado la astrof\u00edsica France C\u00f3rdova, directora de la Fundaci\u00f3n Nacional de\nCiencia de EE.UU., en una de las ruedas de prensa en que se ha presentado el\navance, celebrada en Washington y retransmitida por internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La imagen corresponde al agujero negro central de la\ngalaxia M87, un monstruo con una masa equivalente a 6.500 millones de soles. En\nella puede apreciarse el disco oscuro del agujero negro rodeado por un anillo de\nluz que es m\u00e1s brillante en la parte inferior que en la superior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El anillo est\u00e1 formado por materia que gira a muy alta\nvelocidad alrededor del agujero negro. La parte m\u00e1s clara corresponde a materia\nque est\u00e1 girando en direcci\u00f3n hacia la Tierra, mientras que la parte oscura\ncorresponde a materia que se est\u00e1 alejando.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El consorcio observ\u00f3 estos dos agujeros negros durante diez\nnoches en abril de 2017 con una red de ocho radiotelescopios situados en\nNorteam\u00e9rica, Sudam\u00e9rica, Europa, la Ant\u00e1rtida y Hawai. Estos ocho\nobservatorios, que apuntaron al centro de la V\u00eda L\u00e1ctea y de la galaxia M87\nsimult\u00e1neamente sincronizados por relojes at\u00f3micos, actuaron en la pr\u00e1ctica\ncomo un \u00fanico radiotelescopio con un di\u00e1metro equivalente al de la Tierra. Han\nhecho falta dos a\u00f1os de trabajo para analizar la enorme cantidad de datos\nrecogidos en esas diez noches de observaciones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De cara al futuro, est\u00e1 previsto continuar las\nobservaciones directas de agujeros negros, que se convertir\u00e1n en un nuevo campo\nde investigaci\u00f3n astron\u00f3mica. La red del EHT se ampli\u00f3 el a\u00f1o pasado con un\nnoveno radiotelescopio situado en Groenlandia -aunque hoy no se han presentado\ndatos de la campa\u00f1a de observaci\u00f3n de 2018, que a\u00fan se est\u00e1n analizando- y este\na\u00f1o se ampliar\u00e1 con un d\u00e9cimo situado en Arizona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M\u00e1s adelante, \u201c<em>queremos\nir al espacio<\/em>\u201d, ha declarado Sheperd Doeleman, astrof\u00edsico de la\nUniversidad de Harvard (EE.UU.) y director del consorcio EHT, que\nprevisiblemente ganar\u00e1 el premio Nobel de F\u00edsica en alg\u00fan momento de la pr\u00f3xima\nd\u00e9cada por el descubrimiento presentado hoy.
