Considerado uno de los escultores m\u00e1s notables de su pa\u00eds, tuvo un\n\u00e9xito temprano, en la d\u00e9cada del &#8217;50, y se convirti\u00f3 en pionero del arte\nabstracto en Colombia. El Doodle de hoy tom\u00f3 elementos pict\u00f3ricos de sus\ntrabajos para representar su arte y homenajear su legado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Naci\u00f3 en Pamplona en 1922, ciudad donde hoy su legado sigue\nvivo en el <strong>Museo de Arte Moderno Eduardo Ram\u00edrez Villamizar<\/strong>. En sus\ninicios, estudi\u00f3 arquitectura antes de obtener el reconocimiento mundial por\nsus pinturas y esculturas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En viajes a Par\u00eds y a Nueva York, durante 1950, expuso al\nmodernismo internacional. Una de sus piezas, The Black and White Painting, fue\nadquirida por el Museo de Arte Moderno de Nueva York en 1956 y dos a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s\ngan\u00f3 un premio Guggenheim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Su exposici\u00f3n individual de 1952 en la Biblioteca Nacional\nde Bogot\u00e1 fue una de las primeras muestras de pintura abstracta. Asimismo, las\nformas curvas que ten\u00eda su obra El Dorado, creado para el Banco de Bogot\u00e1, se\ndestacaron por estar cubiertas de pan de oro, herramienta que signific\u00f3 un\ngui\u00f1o a las figuras precolombinas y la orfebrer\u00eda latinoamericana. M\u00e1s\nadelante, tradujo las formas distintivas del arte precolombino en planos\nabstractos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Villamizar represent\u00f3 a Colombia en la Bienal de S\u00e3o Paulo\nde 1969 y gan\u00f3 el segundo premio internacional.
