En aquel tiempo, trabaj\u00f3 en el\nlaboratorio del microbi\u00f3logo alem\u00e1n Karl Friedl\u00e4nder y fue all\u00ed donde se\nconvirti\u00f3 en el responsable de un gran hallazgo para la ciencia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El microbi\u00f3logo descubri\u00f3 que el tratamiento de una mancha\nde bacterias con una mancha de cristal violeta, seguida de una soluci\u00f3n de yodo\ny un solvente org\u00e1nico revelaba diferencias en la estructura y la funci\u00f3n\nbioqu\u00edmica de varias muestras. En 1884 public\u00f3 su investigaci\u00f3n en una revista\nacad\u00e9mica y logr\u00f3 que sus t\u00e9rminos fueran acu\u00f1ados. A partir de entonces, se\nutiliza la definici\u00f3n de Gram-positiva y Gram-negativa para denominar\nbacterias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Las bacterias Gram-positivas aparecen de color p\u00farpura bajo\nun microscopio, porque sus paredes celulares son tan gruesas que el solvente no\npuede penetrarlas, mientras que las bacterias Gram-negativas tienen paredes\ncelulares m\u00e1s delgadas que permiten que el solvente elimine la mancha.
