Naci\u00f3 en una caba\u00f1a cerca de Hodgenville, Kentucky, y creci\u00f3 en el sudoeste de Indiana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tuvo una educaci\u00f3n formal casi nula. Fue principalmente un autodidacta. Se desempe\u00f1\u00f3 como abogado en Springfield, Illinois.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>En 1836, fue elegido para integrar la Asamblea Estatal de Illinois y, en 1846, fue electo para formar parte del Congreso nacional durante un solo per\u00edodo. La proclamaci\u00f3n no se har\u00eda efectiva hasta 1865, cuando se promulg\u00f3 la Decimotercera Enmienda a la Constituci\u00f3n de los Estados Unidos. Para entonces, en 1864, Lincoln hab\u00eda sido reelegido con el 55 % de los votos.
