En M\u00e9xico es la 6ta. causa de muerte entre los derechohabientes del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) y anualmente fallecen por su causa 18 mil mexicanos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En el marco del D\u00eda Mundial de EPOC, especialistas del Hospital Houston Methodist explican si las personas que viven con EPOC son un grupo especialmente vulnerable o no, al nuevo coronavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Al respecto el Dr. Tim Connolly, neum\u00f3logo y especialista en medicina de cuidados cr\u00edticos, explic\u00f3 que, \u201cno necesariamente los pacientes con enfermedades pulmonares cr\u00f3nicas como la EPOC son m\u00e1s vulnerables a contraer el nuevo coronavirus. El problema es que s\u00ed se infectan con el virus, lo m\u00e1s probable es que lo pasen m\u00e1s dif\u00edcil que una persona con pulmones normales preexistentes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esto tiene que ver \u201ccon el hecho de que los pacientes con EPOC tienen una funci\u00f3n pulmonar inicial reducida, lo que complica todo el cuadro cuando se produce inflamaci\u00f3n de las v\u00edas respiratorias y \/ o neumon\u00eda. Los fumadores \/ vapers activos, tengan o no EPOC, tienen un mayor riesgo de infectarse con el SARS-CoV-2 debido a la inflamaci\u00f3n cr\u00f3nica de las v\u00edas respiratorias superiores que permite una entrada m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil del virus en el cuerpo a trav\u00e9s de la nasofaringe que los no fumadores.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/seryhumano.com\/web\/como-tratar-en-casa-una-infeccion-de-leve-a-moderada-de-covid-19\/\">C\u00f3mo tratar en casa una infecci\u00f3n de leve a moderada de COVID-19<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Agreg\u00f3 que, en todos los casos, \u201cla principal preocupaci\u00f3n de los pacientes con EPOC es que si contraen COVID-19, progresar\u00e1 a neumon\u00eda. Esto puede ocurrir ya que este proceso dificultar\u00e1 el intercambio de gases, y si el paciente sufre de ox\u00edgeno en sangre bajo, requerir\u00e1 soporte respiratorio avanzado. Esta asistencia puede tomar la forma de ox\u00edgeno administrado a trav\u00e9s de puntas nasales, mascarillas, m\u00e1quinas BiPAP o incluso soporte vital completo mediante intubaci\u00f3n y un ventilador.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Al hablar de los cuidados que se debe tener para un paciente con EPOC que contrajo COVID-19, el especialista del Hospital Houston Methodist explic\u00f3 que, \u201cadem\u00e1s de todas las medidas de apoyo est\u00e1ndar, los medicamentos y el control diario de los marcadores inflamatorios mediante an\u00e1lisis de sangre, se debe prestar especial atenci\u00f3n al intercambio de gases del paciente, as\u00ed como a la evaluaci\u00f3n regular de su capacidad respiratoria. A diferencia de los pacientes con COVID-19 sin deterioro pulmonar subyacente, los pacientes con EPOC a menudo requieren soporte respiratorio avanzado antes en el proceso de la enfermedad.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sobre los tratamientos, el Dr. Connolly coment\u00f3 que \u201cpara el bajo nivel de ox\u00edgeno, los pacientes reciben ox\u00edgeno suplementario a trav\u00e9s de c\u00e1nulas nasales, ox\u00edgeno de alto flujo, ventilaci\u00f3n no invasiva e incluso soporte vital completo con ventiladores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cualquier paciente con COVID-19 que est\u00e9 lo suficientemente enfermo como para requerir ox\u00edgeno adicional tambi\u00e9n recibir\u00e1 esteroides por v\u00eda intravenosa. Los medicamentos adicionales, como la terapia antiviral, los agentes anti-tormentas de citocinas y los medicamentos del estudio, son todos tratamientos potenciales para los pacientes con EPOC, asumiendo que cumplen con los criterios de laboratorio y de tiempo requeridos.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Para finalizar el tambi\u00e9n especialista en cuidado cr\u00edticos del Hospital Houston Methodist recomend\u00f3 que, \u201clos pacientes con EPOC, que actualmente no est\u00e1n infectados, deben continuar con todos los medicamentos y tratamientos recetados por el m\u00e9dico.
