La Inglaterra victoriana hab\u00eda establecido como modelo de feminidad a la llamada \u201cTrue Woman\u201d o \u00e1ngel del hogar que deb\u00eda presentar cuatro virtudes fundamentales: piedad, sumisi\u00f3n, pureza y domesticidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Desde hac\u00eda unas d\u00e9cadas antes, algunas pensadoras como Mary Wollstonecraft o Harriet Taylor Mill hab\u00edan reclamado el derecho a la educaci\u00f3n y\/o a la participaci\u00f3n pol\u00edtica de las mujeres, lo que produjo movimientos simb\u00f3licos represivos hacia sus seguidoras e, incluso, hacia cualquier mujer que planteara la construcci\u00f3n de una ciudadan\u00eda femenina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En medio de este debate, un grupo de creadoras, pensadoras y literatas estadounidenses decidieron dar cuenta de su identidad y exigir su derecho a la autonom\u00eda econ\u00f3mica, social y de pensamiento.
