El\u00edas se acerc\u00f3 al pueblo y le dijo: <em>\u201c\u00bfHasta cu\u00e1ndo van a andar indecisos? Si el Se\u00f1or es el verdadero Dios, s\u00edganlo; y si lo es Baal, sigan a Baal<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pero el pueblo no supo qu\u00e9 responderle. Entonces El\u00edas les dijo: \u201c<em>Yo soy el \u00fanico sobreviviente de los profetas del Se\u00f1or; en cambio, los profetas de Baal son cuatrocientos cincuenta. Que nos den dos novillos; que ellos escojan uno, que lo descuarticen y lo pongan sobre la le\u00f1a sin prenderle fuego. Yo preparar\u00e9 el otro novillo y lo pondr\u00e9 sobre la le\u00f1a sin prenderle fuego. Ustedes invocar\u00e1n a su dios y yo invocar\u00e9 al Se\u00f1or; y el Dios que responda enviando fuego, \u00e9se es el verdadero Dios<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Todo el pueblo respondi\u00f3: \u201c<em>Est\u00e1 bien<\/em>\u201d. El\u00edas dijo entonces a los profetas de Baal: \u201c<em>Escojan un novillo y comiencen ustedes primero, pues son m\u00e1s numerosos. Invoquen a su dios, pero sin prender fuego<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ellos tomaron el novillo que les dieron, lo prepararon e invocaron a Baal desde la ma\u00f1ana hasta el mediod\u00eda, diciendo: \u201c<em>Baal, resp\u00f3ndenos<\/em>\u201d. Pero no se oy\u00f3 ninguna respuesta, y ellos segu\u00edan danzando y brincando junto al altar que hab\u00edan hecho. Llegado el medio d\u00eda, El\u00edas comenz\u00f3 a re\u00edrse de ellos, dici\u00e9ndoles: \u201c<em>Griten m\u00e1s fuerte, porque a lo mejor Baal, su dios, est\u00e1 muy entretenido conversando o tiene alg\u00fan negocio o est\u00e1 de viaje. A lo mejor est\u00e1 dormido y as\u00ed lo despiertan<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ellos gritaron m\u00e1s fuerte y empezaron a sangrarse, seg\u00fan su costumbre, con cuchillos y punzones, hasta que la sangre les chorreaba por todo el cuerpo. Cuando pas\u00f3 el mediod\u00eda, se pusieron en trance hasta la hora de la ofrenda, pero no se escuch\u00f3 respuesta alguna ni hubo nadie que atendiera sus ruegos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entonces El\u00edas le dijo al pueblo: \u201c<em>Ac\u00e9rquense a m\u00ed<\/em>\u201d. Y todo el pueblo se le acerc\u00f3. Prepar\u00f3 el altar del Se\u00f1or, que hab\u00eda sido demolido. Tom\u00f3 doce piedras, seg\u00fan el n\u00famero de las tribus de los hijos de Jacob (a quien el Se\u00f1or hab\u00eda dicho: T\u00fa te llamar\u00e1s Israel). Con las piedras levant\u00f3 un altar en honor del Se\u00f1or e hizo alrededor del altar una zanja, del ancho de un surco. Acomod\u00f3 la le\u00f1a, descuartiz\u00f3 el novillo y lo puso sobre la le\u00f1a.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despu\u00e9s dijo: \u201c<em>Llenen cuatro c\u00e1ntaros de agua y derr\u00e1menla sobre el holocausto y sobre la le\u00f1a<\/em>\u201d. Y lo hicieron as\u00ed. Volvi\u00f3 a decirles: \u201c<em>H\u00e1ganlo otra vez<\/em>\u201d. Y lo repitieron. De nuevo les dijo: \u201c<em>H\u00e1ganlo por tercera vez\u201d.<\/em> Y as\u00ed lo hicieron. El agua corri\u00f3 alrededor del altar y llen\u00f3 la zanja por completo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A la hora de la ofrenda se acerc\u00f3 el profeta El\u00edas y dijo: \u201c<em>Se\u00f1or, Dios de Abraham, de Isaac y de Jacob; que se vea hoy que t\u00fa eres el Dios de Israel, que yo soy tu servidor y que por orden tuya he ejecutado todas estas cosas. Resp\u00f3ndeme, Se\u00f1or, resp\u00f3ndeme, para que todo este pueblo sepa que t\u00fa, Se\u00f1or, eres el Dios verdadero, que puede cambiar los corazones<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entonces baj\u00f3 el fuego del Se\u00f1or y consumi\u00f3 la v\u00edctima destinada al holocausto y la le\u00f1a, y sec\u00f3 el agua de la zanja. Al ver esto, todo el pueblo tuvo miedo, y postr\u00e1ndose en tierra, dijo: \u201c<em>El Se\u00f1or es el Dios verdadero. El Se\u00f1or es el Dios verdadero<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>EVANGELIO DEL D\u00cdA<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Lectura del santo evangelio seg\u00fan san Mateo<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mt 5, 17-19<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En aquel tiempo, Jes\u00fas dijo a sus disc\u00edpulos: \u201c<em>No crean que he venido a abolir la ley o los profetas; no he venido a abolirlos, sino a darles plenitud. Yo les aseguro que antes se acabar\u00e1n el cielo y la tierra, que deje de cumplirse hasta la m\u00e1s peque\u00f1a letra o coma de la ley<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Por lo tanto, el que quebrante uno de estos preceptos menores y ense\u00f1e eso a los hombres, ser\u00e1 el menor en el Reino de los cielos; pero el que los cumpla y los ense\u00f1e, ser\u00e1 grande en el Reino de los cielos\u2019\u2019<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>PALABRAS DEL SANTO PADRE<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Jes\u00fas, sin embargo, no quiere cancelar los mandamientos que dio el Se\u00f1or por medio de Mois\u00e9s, sino que quiere darles plenitud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00bfPero qu\u00e9 significa esta plenitud de la Ley?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jes\u00fas mismo nos responde con algunos ejemplos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inicia desde el quinto mandamiento: Hab\u00e9is o\u00eddo que se dijo a los antiguos: \u201c<strong><u>No matar\u00e1s<\/u><\/strong>\u201d; &#8230; Pero yo os digo: todo el que se deja llevar de la c\u00f3lera contra su hermano ser\u00e1 procesado (vv. 21-22).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Con esto, Jes\u00fas nos recuerda que incluso las palabras pueden matar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jes\u00fas propone a quien le sigue la perfecci\u00f3n del amor: un amor cuya \u00fanica medida es no tener medida, de ir m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de todo c\u00e1lculo.
