Abri\u00e9ndose camino a lo largo de la tela, el incompleto canal hecho por la mano del hombre lleva la mirada del espectador hacia la lejan\u00eda y le hace atravesar las tierras de Egipto.La escena documenta el avance de una importante conquista tecnol\u00f3gica: el canal de Suez, que quer\u00eda unir Oriente y Occidente, el Mar Mediterr\u00e1neo con el Mar Rojo.<\/p>\n<p>Las rutas comerciales no tardar\u00edan mucho en ser m\u00e1s r\u00e1pidas y menos peligrosas; surgir\u00edan nuevos mercados y, muy pronto, el canal de Suez se convertir\u00eda en el centro del mundo.
