Aunque el libro no contenga referencias expl\u00edcitas a la situaci\u00f3n pol\u00edtica italiana, esta historia de una familia de clase media, cuyos miembros aparecen como v\u00edctimas indefensas de un entorno social corrupto, encierra sin duda un mensaje pol\u00edtico.<\/p>\n<p>El tema central de la novela pone de relieve la incapacidad y la falta de preparaci\u00f3n de los personajes para enfrentarse con la realidad, marcados como est\u00e1n por una debilidad innata e imborrable.<a href=\"https:\/\/seryhumano.com\/web\/?attachment_id=4459\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4459\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4459\" alt=\"Alberto-Moravia\" src=\"https:\/\/seryhumano.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Alberto-Moravia-219x300.jpg\" width=\"219\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seryhumano.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Alberto-Moravia-219x300.jpg 219w, https:\/\/seryhumano.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Alberto-Moravia.jpg 248w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 219px) 100vw, 219px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mariagrazia, su hijo Michele y su hija Carla padecen una seria crisis econ\u00f3mica, pero mantienen las apariencias y llevan una ostentosa vida burguesa. Lenta pero inexorablemente se van deslizando hacia un triste final. Michele, el personaje central, parece no percatarse de los dramas que le rodean y mira con indiferencia una realidad que se desintegra ante sus propios ojos. Es totalmente incapaz de actuar seg\u00fan las reglas de su clase social o de reunir la energ\u00eda moral necesaria para reaccionar y rebelarse contra ellas. Intenta acabar con Leo, el odioso amante de su madre \u2013y luego de su hermana\u2013, pero (grotescamente) su pistola est\u00e1 descargada.<\/p>\n<p>Con esta novela, Moravia iniciaba su dilatada indagaci\u00f3n sobre la <i>condici\u00f3n humana<\/i>.
